Hi Everyone!!
I want to thank you all for all your well wishes for a safe journey and keeping the porch light on for me. AND thank you for the BIG "Welcome Home"!
Sandy & I left Palm Harbor about 6pm after Sandy got done working in the RV Park's office. I drove until Midnight and we stayed at a "Micro-Tel" in Tifton, Georgia.
Got up at 6:30, on the road by 7:30. She drove first, as she is the morning person. Then I drove the By-Pass around Atlanta where the Truck traffic was very heavy. Her job was to read the signs. As long as she read the signs, I watched the road and the trucks. She praised my skillful driving as most of the time we were in the middle lane between Big Rigs. I hadn't told her about the findings at the Eye Dr's.
It wasn't until we were in the mountains of southern Kentucky, did I tell her. I didn't tell her too much....didn't want to scare her. I know that if I told her prior to the trip she would have insisted on driving the 800 miles herself. She had just done the 1600 mile trip alone the previous week. We arrived in Corbin, Kentucky about 5:30pm Monday, and went up to her mother's apartment in "Friendship House", where her brother and his life partner were. It was dinner time in the Nursing Home next door, so we got the keys for the "Guest Apt." in the building & unloaded our bags from the Van.
I stayed in the apartment and got comfy (ie. released the girls...ahhhhh), sat back to rest while Sandy went to see her Mom. Fifteen minutes later, Sandy was back. Her mother was tired and wanted to go to bed. I think we were too tired to go out to eat. Sandy went to bed by 7:30 and I pulled out the sofa bed & watched TV.
Tornado watches & warnings all evening. The next morning I woke to the sound of thunder and hail hitting the windows. Sandy had awoken, came and sat on the sofa bed while I tried to wake up. I think I may have moaned something about the Tornado warnings. Of course, that was the day the bad one hit Memphis and Kentucky State University. One Tornado had hit the mining community of Harlan, where Sandy was born, about 12 miles east of Corbin.
She actually was born in an area called "Coal Bin" in Harlan County. I learned a great deal of about her life in Kentucky, the few days we were there.
While I was gone Connie gave me the "Nice" Award. Thank you Foxie! I know I am suppose to "pay it forward", but right now my brain cells aren't functioning well. When I over do the activity, the Lupus really kicks my butt.
Connie and I met at her Halloween Paarty last October. At the time I had only had my Journal for a little over a month. Being a Newie, I didn't know about Entry or Comment Alerts, explained . We started sharing things we found online and started exchanging emails. We have the same, dry, a little off color sense of humor. If you ever read our comments to each other...She refers to me as LiL Fox, and herself as 'ol Fox. It all came from this little tag she had made for me.
YaY!! Nicolle just sent a text message...she has officially been accepted at DePaul University Grad School in Chicago. She has been volunteering at one of Chicago's inner city schools since September and will major in Education.

Congrats to Nicolle ~ I bet she is thrilled. Thank goodness you didn't get caught up in one of those tornadoes, they were just horrible. Good you back safe & sound. Yeah, I think it was a good call not to tell her ALL about the eye doctor!! Good job driving though from the sound of it.

Congrats to the Kid! That's great! Glad you and Sandy had a safe trip...nice to get away. Y'all should have driven on over to my world in NC! At least we've been a bit warm lately.
