Some photos from my daughters wedding in Maui
Eye Doctor
I am still trying to get caught up on "Journals". I've noticed reading was taking me longer, but I'm 50, things are going to take longer. While reading captions on the History Channel or the beginning or end of a movie, I wasn't finishing what was written.
Yesterday, I had my yearly appointment with the eye Doctor. Yearly, because I was diagnosed with a cataract in my right eye back in 2000 due to the medications I take for the Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis & Fibromyalgia, yada, yada, yada. Every year, the same thing.....no change, nothing to worry about.
Until this years exam. Cateracts both eyes. Good news is they are not quite bad enough to do surgery on. So I look at the moon at night and see not one, but six!
Then the glaucoma test. "Pressures are normal", the doctor said. Next the part I hate because I am prone to migraines. The doctor took the ophthalmoscope and while peeling my eyelids over my forehead peers though my eyeballs to see how many brain cells I have left from my Hippy Dippy Days of the 60's and 70's.
"Ohhhh?", he said.
I think...."OH WHAT!" I hate it when a doctor says "Ohhh' followed by a long pause.
"You've got Optic nerve damage, we need to do some more tests"
I think, "Great! How much is this going to cost?"
So I was lead to another dark room. And pictures were take of the back of my eyeballs. Pictures of the Optic nerves. The doctor came in and shows me the photos and some laser images. I could tell he thought because I'm a nurse I'd understand what the images were. Now, yes, I'm a nurse, an OB/Peds/Neonatal nurse. So I started asking questions. Apparently I have Low Pressure Glaucoma. It's not picked up by the machine because....it's low pressure. But, still pressure. Who knows how long I've had it, maybe years, but the damage is showing. So now instead of yearly visits to the Ophthalmologist, I have to go monthly. And.....I need glasses BIG Time! And big bucks, too. The UV rays will make the condition worse so I have to get the Transitional Lenses with 100% UV filter. There is no escaping sun. They have to be Tri-Focals, because the eyes adjust to near, far or in between. The frames I have are from the early 90's, wire rims. When we all had the BIG permed poofy hair to go with the BIG shoulder pads. Those glasses seem so big on my face now that I wear my hair as "nature intended".....straight and usually wind blown. I call it "Palm Harbor Hair". I can look great in the mirror, walk outside and it's gone. Anyway, it's time for new frames. They are a bargain compared to the lenses.

Mama Snowbird
Mama Snowbird had picked me up yesterday for my appointment. I reminded her to bring her pain pills. And eat breakfast so she won't get crabby. I also told her that this doctors visit is usually a long one and if she didn't think she could handle it, I had arranged for a ride. This is the second time we have spent a day together since I had a talk with her about her "behavior". Her position was" I can be nasty to my family, because my family has to love me". My position, " You should to be nice to family, because you love them".
I think she got it.
She was actually pleasant to be around. No shouting at medical office personal, no complaining about the time, no complaining about pain (well, not too much), or the traffic......and she brought her counted cross stitch to amuse herself. I took her to lunch at Red Lobster. She like it. I needed a few things I could only get at Countryside Mall, which was only across the street. I told her if she wanted to get home or was too tired I could catch the bus back home. I wouldn't mind. She walked in, found a leather chair overlooking the Ice Rink, put her feet up, and did her cross-stitch. Then she remarked how losing 40 pounds she feels better and is not nearly as short of breathe walking. Mama Snowbird sat down in a wheelchair in 1986 and never got up. She was only 53. She has one of those "Jazzy" scooters, but she didn't cover it and the humidity got to it a few night before. Something about the computer in it had to dry out. Hmmm, deja vous.
I went to Merle Norman, got the make-up remover I needed. Hit the Gap & Dillard's and found a quilted white & pink reversible vest for the trip to Kentucky. I wanted to get one in Chicago when I was there, but thought that I'd only be in the cold for the 10 days, then home again. This was on sale for 70% off, making it only 13 bucks!
At Macy's I bought the earrings I fell in love with 2 weeks ago & bought 2 sterling anklet chains (on sale 40% off). And when I went back to collect Mama Snowbird...she said she was fine & I could do more shopping if I wanted.
Nah....Enough money spent, time to go home.

I've got to get myself to the eye doctor. Since I was diagnosed with MS last year my eyesight has gone down hill fast. The thing is is that some days it's about how it used to be (I already wear glasses) and some days I just can't get a good focus on anything. And now when I take them off I can't see ANYTHING!
The wedding pictures are gorgeous! Thanks for posting them. Any time I can visit Hawaii vicariously is a good day for me.
:)

Hippy Days,YOU??,LOL
That time skipped by me,as I was a young mother then.
I am so sorry you have all these problems with your eyes.
I know I need to get mine checked as things are blurry-especially driving at night-a horror-
Glad you and momma snow bird enjoyed your time together....
Lovely pix--have a great day lil fox.....

I'm sorry to hear about your eyes and all the associated costs that go with it. I'm more concerned about you having to deal with the cataracts until the doctor deems they are bad enough to remove. That in-between stage has got to be rough on a day to day basis. Will the low pressure Glaucoma ever go away? Glad your Mom has mended her ways and was pleasant company for the day long excursion.
Sam
yep those eye scans suck and expensive, enjoy your weekend
Wow on the eye issues.
I hope those glasses are an easy adjustment to you.
I have a coworker who couldnt ajust.
Ughhhh about the eye doctor :( I can empathize with that! I need to go to the eye dr. badly but the cost of it (and the glasses I know I'll need) make me keep putting it off. Your shopping expo sounded fun! I have a really hard time going in malls or any store that is crowded, panic attacks set in and I wind up leaving pretty quickly. It's been a long time since I've managed to actually go into a mall and stay for any length of time (which really when you look at it, it's a good thing because then I don't spend $$ LOLOL). Have a good day! Hugz, Teresa
Good to see you back and wow what a lot going on...
Have a good weekend

Sorry to hear about your eyes. I'm happy to hear Mama Snowbird was pleasant with you and not too difficult. I enjoyed looking at your pictures, very nice.

My mom had cataracts and had the surgery. She actually had lens transplants and now doesn't even have to wear glasses.

Congrats to your girlie there! Beautiful, and looks to be a very happy bride. On your eyes...has it ever been suggested that you might try those glasses that exercise the eyes? You know, the ones with all the holes? Would that help? Interesting on your dilemma with Mama...I had the very same frustration with my ex...I could never get him to see that "it starts at home"...that you should always strive to give your family your best in all things. He had the same retort your Mama does...oye vay.... ;) C.
The weddings pictures are gorgeous, as is your daughter. Loved the "pineapple" potatohead..lol. I have cataracts in both my eyes that are getting worse. I haven't been back for two years but need to badly. The right is really bad. They suspect mine come from long years of exposure to UV rays. Good news is I'll have 20/20 vision, so he says, in my eyes afterwards. I'm thinking I best get moving and get the appt. I just hate spending money on another pair of glasses that I probably won't see all that well out of. HUGS Chris
