Sick Mama SnowBird

Mama Snowbird is in the hospital.

She had called me Saturday to tell me she had a cold and couldn't go to the State Fair.  I called to check on her a few times over the weekend and by Sunday afternoon she was coughing up blood and said she called the doctor.  The doctor wanted to see her Monday.

Mama Snowbird got to the DR, then got an ambulance ride to the hospital in New Port Richey.

Apparently her blood oxygenation rate was down (pO2) to 88%.  She didn't have her cell phone and couldn't remember my phone number and couldn't call my brother because it is long distance to NY.  Well, I guess she finally got the right combination of numbers because she did call about 9pm.  She wanted her pillow : /

I had talked with my brother earlier in the evening and he said that her cousin in Rhode Island had been trying to call her and there was no answer.  SO she called him.  AND he called me.  AND I had said she probably couldn't hear the phone or it was buried in her one of her many bags (ie. sewing, hand bag, laundry bag)  You name it, there's a bag for it.

Boy, do I feel badly now.

Today, although she was on oxygen and a liquid diet she was fairly comfortable.  She refused to have Arterial Blood Gases done (ABG's) ~ We nurses KNOW how painful that test is. And she was complaining about all the sugar in the pudding and the sherbet she had received on a diabetic diet.

Good news is that her  pO2 is up to 96%.   I'd prefer her to come down one the Clearwater Hospitals, Countryside Mease or Morton Plant Hospital where the care is better.

This nurses opinion.

At any rate she is getting respiratory treatments and she doesn't have to cook or go shopping for food.    My son works in Trinity, not far from New Port Richey.  He left work to go get her pillow, her cell phone, and take out her garbage.  Four bags had piled up.

He can be such a love, I'm so proud.

Sunday, Marc did come to visit me for the afternoon, stayed for supper, then we watched Terminator 2 together.

When the movie came out in 1991, I was in college.  Classes ended the first of May, but I took a 5 week flash Sociology course, then the kids and I were off for my summer job working as a Camp Nurse along Delaware River on the Penn/NY border.  Way out it the sticks.

That was the year Terminator impersonators were everywhere ~ I'll Be Baacckk, Asta la vista, Baby!

Marc introduce me to a new program called BAD Break, or is it Break BAD.  By the time he left it was after 11 pm.

Tomorrow I have weigh in at Weight Watchers at 8 am.

  Yoga at 9.

Bethe, I hope you Mom will be ok.  What is involved in a aBG test?  I will have to look that one up so if anyone wants to do it to me I'll say no!  Your pictures are beautiful!  Linda

Bethe
I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but it sounds like she has stablized and is on the road to recovery.  At least that is what I hope I am reading.  Let us know what her prognosis is.  Glad your son was able to come to the rescue with the pillow, phone, and garbage.  Nice picture of the dolphins!

Wishing your mother all the best, the poor dear.  I know those blood gas tests hurt like crazy.  Your son sounds like a gem, you are right to be proud.

Wow I am glad she got to the hospital and got herself fixed up. I just love your pictures...they make me want to come down to Florida so bad. We so enjoy it there. Have you watched the tv series the Sarah Conner Chronicles? It comes on Monday nights at nine...it is derived from those movies. Good show, I am enjoying it.
