1685  Johann Sabastian Bach is born in Germany

1871  Stanley begins search for Livingstone

On this day in 1871, journalist Henry Morton Stanley begins his famous search through Africa for the missing British explorer Dr. David Livingstone who was attempting to find the source of the Nile river.  After a 7 month trek Stanley found Livingstone.  He uttered the famous words, "Dr Livingstone, I presume". 

1965  Selma to Montgomery march begins

In the name of African-American voting rights, 3,200 civil rights demonstrators, led by Martin Luther King Jr., begin a historic march from Selma, Alabama, to the State Capitol at Montgomery.  The "Alabama Freedom March,"  ended 5 days later with protection from U.S. guard assistance. 

1971  First use of computer animation

The Andromeda Strain, the first movie to use computer animation, opens.

1980 J.R. Ewing is shot
