Adoption

A couple of weeks ago Sandy told me that a mother cat and her 5 kittens was under the trailer nest to hers in the front of the Park.  Ingrid, the Assistant Manager has been feeding them and last week asked me if I would like a kitten.
She felt sure she could catch them.

Today while in the RV Park office, Sandy and I were talking about them and how we were afraid that they would eventually get hit by a car on busy Alternate 19.  Or, when old enough start mating leading to more kittens.  I was afriad that they may be too old & feral.

After Sandy got off work I went around the back of her trailer & looking to see if I could see them when Ingrid came around the corner of her trailer,.  She reached underneath, and behind the wheel & grabbed a sleeping kitten.  In only a second the little Calico was hissing, kicking and biting.  Ingrid couldn't hold on, so I reached down to get the kitten by the back of the neck.

I had a good hold on her and she realxed, but not before giving me quite a few scratches on both arms and biting my fingers a few times.  Little Stinker actually bit thru the side of the middle finger of my left hand.  I held her until Ingrid got the cat carrier and dropped her in.  Then went to Sandy's house, next door, to  rinse out my wounds.

No worries...I washed with disinfectant soap and soaked my hands for about 15 minutes, then applied triple antibiotic ointment.  When I got home Ipored Betadine over the bites.

Little Stinker has been hiding in the back of the cat carrier since getting home at 6:30 pm.  I would guess she is about 7-8 weeks old.
Though I did get a glimse of the mother cat and she is very small.

I offered Little Stinker a little piece of chicken on my finger, but she only hissed a little.  There is water in a cup in the carrier, a towel she has snuggled up to,  and a Rubbermaid container with kitty litter.

I'm wondering if she'll use it.

I'm also wondering if all Calico's are Females?

My youngest cat still hisses and bites me and she's seven...lol, then when she's ready she'll have a cuddle. You didn't say how old the kittens were, as sometimes if you take them away from the mother before nines or so they can get very funny, but glad she seems to have settled down.

Take care

When our daughter would bring in one of the barn cats to be her lil pet she would wrap it in a blanket and hold it and talk to it and stroke it and in a matter of days it would be calm and sleep under the covers with her.
Don't wait too long to get it out of that carrier or it will be even wilder.
Hope you have good luck.Glad you took in the stray.
Hugs lil foxie

It's adorable!  Poor little thing is scared.  Keep the door to the crate open, and keep talking to her.  Eventually she'll come on out and be nosy.

I can't wait to see the video, will have to see it later though (not home right now).
She is a lucky little girl & will realize it soon enough.  Take care  of the bites & scratches.  You are wonderful for taking care of her!!!

Hmmmm, a feisty little one but since most cats think with their stomach, I have a feeling she will stop biting the hand that feeds her chicken.  She's a cutie....HUGS CHris

I have 6 of them about that size on my front porch. The mother was originally a feral kitten herself. I caught the mother's mother had her fixed and rehomed, unfortunately I couldn't catch her before she ended up pregnant. In the meantime she would come up on the porch for food and water, eventually she would let us pet her, not hold her or pick her up but pet her. It worked so well she came up on the porch to have her litter. Right from the beginning I let her know I was there and handled the kittens so they would recognize my voice and touch. Now I literally get ambushed when I do out there.

Pointers: Keep talking to her in a soothing voice, try feeding her a little canned cat food, wait until she is really hungry. While she eats, slowly reach out and pet her, she will be so hung up on eating she won't realize your petting her at first. Eventually she will get used to you and getting pet. As for getting her to use the litter, I usually take a little poop and put it in the bin. After a few times of picking the kitten up and putting them near it they usually get the idea. If all else fails and she doesn't calm down, they usually do after they are fixed. I've had a couple wild strays turn into kittens afterwards. Hope some of this helps. By the way as someone who is constantly rescueing strays...Thank you! For taking one and loving them. (Hugs) Indigo

I think the perfect name for her would be "Little Stinker"  :)

Almost 2 years ago we took a mamma cat and her 3 (2 day old) kittens. She sat very good in a basket with her babies on the way home in a clothes basket. We got her at a moving sale. The little girl had taken up with the stray mother.  They were moving into an apt. & could not take her. She named her Shasta. One ear of the mother was scared very bad; either from a dog, fence, or other animal. We brought her home and put them in the dog kennel inside the dog house. She let me touch one of her babies. When the grandkids came out I let them touch the same one.  Within a few day she moved them. We had no idea where she hid them. She hid them for almost 6 weeks!! Finally she came out of hiding and meow to me. I asked her where her babies were and she took me to them. I swear she knew what I was saying. I told her to call her babies. She called them and they came out... but boy they were wild!! Four months I fed and gave them milk twice a day. She would always call them out for me. Got all 4 of them fixed while still wild. Mamma cat was very gentle. She tried to get them to come to me. She was smart. I never liked cats as much as dogs until I had to take care of these 4 cats. Mamma cat did not like my dogs, she left, have no idea where she is??  She is fixed, no more kittens. Maybe she went back to town? The 3 kittens are grown and almost trip me now wanting attention. Once the mother left they thought I was their second mom. They still do not like to be picked up much. Sure the kitten will come around in a couple of weeks. Sure wish you luck. Janie
