ADD day

Marc, my son, came over Sunday as he did last weekend.   Even though the weather was perfect, he opted out of going to the pool.  "Too many people, Ma", which is his que for telling me that too many people makes the ADD hard to manage.  In his case, he gets anxious,  paces, & smokes.

When Marc was a little guy the doctors assured me he would grow out of "it".  Marc jokingly says his boss says he has OCD in regards to keeping his work station clean.  And Marc is a self admitted germ-a-phobe.  I know these are ways coping mechanisms he's developed to overcome the Attention Deficit Disorder, but where does one problem end and another take over?

So we stayed indoors with the A/C on and watched movies (gosh, Sundays are boring without football!)  It wasn't until 7 pm did we find a movie we hadn't seen in a a long while, Independence Day.  Even though, Marc brought burgers from Burger King he was hungry by 8, so I popped a couple pizzas in the oven!

Now, IF it was 25 yrs ago I would have insisted he eat healthier food.  I had found that doing without artificial colors, flavors, & preservatives helped the hyper activeness.  Learning sign language helped with communication. It wasn't until he was 8 or 9 did I find out he had a central auditory processing problem.  To describe it better ~ It's a neurological problem developed in the first trimester of pregnancy.  To use and analogy, it is the ears what dyslexia is to the eyes.  It happens in the mid section of the Temporal lobe of the brain.  Basically front and center.  The ADHD in his case affected his organization skills & communication.

Marc has overcome the organizational problem with work that is repetitious, requires concentration on the intricate work by working grinding crystals with precision for medical use (laser surgery), satellite communications , and military arms. some would find it mundane, he finds the work challenging.

Now that is cool job, those crystals got to be perfect to work the right way, something I could never do , due to lack of patients

I know all too well the problems with ADHD.  Did you know most girls with Anorexia also have some form of ADHD??  Just found that out about a week ago.  The Anorexia is a coping skill for the ADHD.  This is what they believe to be going on with Nicci.

Glad y'all had a good visit, and some fun food. :) I didnt know all this about him. Good to hear he is a strong willed person and has overcome it as best as anyone can and is living a productive life.

We often joke about OCD & ADD and such. But unless you have or have  a love one that does. You'll never know the true effect that it has on their lives. And if anyone can handle it...it would be you Bethe.

It sounds like you two had a nice day together :)  I understand about the "too many people" thing, I don't have ADD but I do have anxiety/panic issues and if there are too many people around me ~ I freak, therein the lovely aspects of Klonopin lol.  It helps me with work...to be able to work in the area that I work in. Not all the time mind you, but when it "get's bad".  I was going over your previous entries from the past few days and here's the awnser to one of your questions LOL  Fall and Winter are my fav times of the year :).  I hope you have a lovely day and Ma Snowbird is feeling much better.  Hugz, Teresa

Alot of people become nervous around others.......and especially when you are wearing next to nothing (bathingsuits)  add to that the medical problems...that must be terrible.   It's good that you have the medical background that you do, and are able to "guide" him somewhat.......As always Bethe, i wish you and yours the best........Fondly........Megghan

This was very interesting.  I'm glad that Marc was able to find ways to overcome some of the obstacles.

Very interesting.  My kiddies suffer on the food front.  Very little artificial anything happens around here.  So much so that, when they DO get a dose, it's SO obvious. ;)  C.
